Heart of the City celebrates 10 years
Heart of the City Church in Coeur d'Alene will celebrate its 10th anniversary in Coeur d'Alene this weekend.
The church started as a 12-person church plant from City Harvest Church in Vancouver and has experienced tremendous growth since its genesis in the summer of 2006. Now, at its seventh location at the corner of Kathleen Avenue and Howard Street in Coeur d'Alene, services generally include about 1,200 people from all walks of life.
Because they do not simply gather in a building for services on the weekend, pastors Jonathan and Raydeane Owens refer to the church as a "city church," committed to making an impact on the community, not just in spiritual health and growth, but in all areas of life. They have reached hundreds of single mothers through their Single Moms Outreach they host each May, which includes oil changes, car washes, groceries and more.
At the beginning of each school year, the church donates supplies either directly to students, or to teachers who would otherwise not be able to afford them. On Halloween the church hosts the CitiFall Festival, a safe, fun, family-friendly alternative to trick-or-treating, at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds. They also plan to re-launch the food bank and clothing ministry known as Our Father's Market and Giving Closet.
Everyone is invited to join the 10th anniversary weekend festivities, which include prayer at 9 a.m. Saturday and weekend services at 6:06 p.m. Saturday, as well as 9:09 and 11 a.m. Sunday. The weekend will culminate with an anniversary picnic at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Ramsey Park, located at 3525 N. Ramsey Road in Coeur d'Alene.
