Doris Ann Pearson, 92

| July 5, 2016 4:30 PM

Doris Ann Pearson, 92, died June 28, 2016, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Walkerville, Mont. Doris lived a full life of family, hard work and adventure.

Her parents, JW and Anne Thompson, and sister Gladys, emigrated from Nottingham, England, to Butte, Mont., for work in copper mining. Her brother, John Jr., sister Anne, and Doris were all born in Montana. Doris, the youngest child, was born 23 years after Gladys. Her parents and siblings preceded Doris in death (Anne died of childhood flu).

Doris graduated from Butte High School. She worked in offices and was an award-winning typist. She moved to Spokane with her son, Ken Kerr, to be near her sister after divorcing her first husband, Bill Kerr. She went to beauty school and worked as a beautician. She also worked at United Van Lines. She married Winton Pearson. They bought a home in the Shadle area. Daughter Diane was born. Doris and Winton celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii in 1978. Winton died in 1980. She retired from Kaiser-Trentwood in 1982 after 26 years of service.

She enjoyed travel with friends and on tours. Destinations included Hawaii, England to meet relatives, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Finland, Russia, where she picked a rock up from the ground as a souvenir, China, Mexico, Panama, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, where she rode a camel, Norway, Sweden, Branson, Mo., and New England.

She valued her card playing friends. She enjoyed endless hours of fun playing pinochle and spite and malice until macular degeneration made cards and crafts impossible. She enjoyed the fellowship and church activities at Knox Presbyterian Church in Spokane and First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene. Her English heritage was evident in her strong opinions, her passion for a clean house, and her stylish fashion sense. Her children and grandchildren could always count on her support and advice in their activities, whether requested or not. She loved holiday festivities with family, making cookies, pasties, hardtack and big pancakes (crepes). Yum.

She moved from her Shadle home of 50 years to Coeur d’Alene in 2006 to be near Diane and grandsons. She enjoyed the social camaraderie at Heritage Place (the Village at Orchard Ridge Senior Living). She was an active observer of the school and sports activities of her grandsons.

She is survived by son, Ken R. Kerr (Sherry) of Colbert, Wash., and daughter Diane Lee (Mike) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; grandchildren, Kenlynn Kerr, Kameron Kerr (Tina), Daniel Lee, Joe Lee, Brian Matthews (Anne) and Brenda Kraft (John); great-grandchildren Jordyn Kerr and Kody Boone (Kenlynn), and Kasey, Kyle, Kaleb and Kaden Kerr (Kameron), and Caitlin and Cody Matthews (Brian).

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, 521 E. Lakeside Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, 83814.
