Traffic stop leads to drug, firearm arrest

Two North Dakota residents were arrested in Post Falls on Friday night after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and firearms, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said.

A Kootenai County deputy stopped the vehicle at 11:41 p.m. at the intersection of Spokane Street and east Third Street in Post Falls. Upon contacting the occupants of the vehicle, the deputy detected an overwhelming odor of marijuana and observed numerous firearms throughout the vehicle, one within reach of a small child in the back seat.

Upon further investigation, more than a pound of marijuana, methamphetamine, paraphernalia and six firearms were located in the vehicle.

The driver, Nikki Longie, 31, and passenger Joshua Schild, 29, were arrested for trafficking marijuana, injury to a child, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. In addition, Longie, a convicted felon, was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine. The child was placed into the custody of Idaho Health and Welfare Child Protective Services.
