Getting around Cd'A today

| July 4, 2016 9:00 PM

Crowds will gather in Coeur d’Alene today to attend the American Heroes Parade at 11 a.m., the festival in City Park and the fireworks show at night.

Sherman Avenue will be closed from First to 23rd streets for the parade. The closure is expected to be in effect from 9 a.m. until about 1 p.m.

No parking is allowed on the parade route, and traffic control officers will be on hand. The newly constructed Memorial Field parking lot will be open from 8 a.m. until the end of the fireworks show.

The city’s downtown traffic plan will be in place beginning at 8:45 p.m.

The fireworks show will begin at dusk, around 9:45 or 10 p.m.

The ramps on and off Interstate 90 at Northwest Boulevard will be closed at 8 p.m. to prevent backups on the interstate following the fireworks display. Motorists will need to use another interchange to get to their final destinations.

Barricades, signs, and flaggers will assist in keeping traffic flowing away from downtown, with the focus being to get motorists to leave downtown either to the north or east. The ability to enter Northwest Boulevard from downtown will be blocked for this reason, and traffic control devices will usher motorists either toward Mullan, Front or Sherman avenues east or north on First through Seventh streets, excluding Third Street, which is one-way heading south.
