POEM: A personal tribute
A portrait of you is framed,
In the center of the living room,
Hoping an end comes to this war,
Wanting you to come home soon,
For a wife waits for her husband,
Children yearn for their father’s embrace,
Mother and father miss you dearly,
You can tell by the tears on their face.
And I can’t wait for you to come,
For you and I to go fishing,
To talk like brothers should,
A part of our family is missing,
We treasure every letter of yours,
Reading them out loud like a story,
Of a young soldier doing his great duty,
Writing back to us telling us not to worry,
But the levee of emotions can’t hold,
And finally breaks in form of tears,
For our hearts are filled with pride,
But also filled with worry and fears,
For we want you back home,
Not a flag in your memory,
For you are such a young man,
Not done with his life story,
So here I am looking at your portrait,
Cascading sorrowful tears,
Trying to stay strong for the family,
But can’t help express my fears,
When will you come home,
To the embrace of your lovely wife,
When will you come home brother,
And live out your life,
We have supported you,
And shall continue to,
But this heart can only take so much,
Come home, for we miss you.
