LEGION BASEBALL: Lums drop final two in pool play

COEUR d’ALENE — Dominic Conigliaro struck out six, but the Edmonton Cardinals pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 3-2 win in a pool play game in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic on Saturday at Thorco Field.

Tanner Criswell had two hits, with an RBI for Coeur d’Alene (7-13), which lost 9-0 to the Spokane Expos later on Saturday.

Coeur d’Alene finished pool play 2-2 and conclude the tournament today against the Calgary Blues at Thorco Field at 4:30 p.m. Calgary finished 1-3 in the Post Falls pod.

Northern Lakes beats La Grande,

fall to North Stars

SPOKANE — J.J. Mackesy struck out four and walked one in a complete game two-hitter as the Mountaineers beat the La Grande Legends 4-0 in a pool play game at Rogers High.

Later, the Spokane North Stars pushed the go-ahead run across in the seventh inning to beat the Mountaineers 5-4.

“The kids had a great, fun day at the ballpark,” Northern Lakes coach Al Bevacqua said. “We came out and executed and had fun doing it. Mackesy pitched lights out.”

Joe Strietzel pitched a complete game for Northern Lakes against Spokane.

“Strietzel pitched a gem,” Bevacqua said. “We just ran out of innings in the second game. We made some strides the past two days.”

Dalton Strong hit a two-run double against the Spokane North Stars for Northern Lakes, which faces ESC Tigers today at 8 a.m. at Rogers High.

POST FALLS — The Prairie Cardinals beat the Calgary Blues 15-7 before losing to Abbotsford 9-0 to conclude pool play in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic at Post Falls High.

Prairie (6-21) will face the Columbia Gorge Hustlers today at 9 a.m. at Thorco Field in Coeur d’Alene.
