RATHDRUM — North Idaho STEM Charter Academy in Rathdrum received a grant for $2,299.43 from the Idaho STEM Action Center.

The funding will be used starting this spring by students of teacher Beth Brubaker.

A total of $48,175 in grants was awarded to 23 educators statewide. The STEM Action Center received 104 applications requesting more than $250,000.

Projects include elementary robotics, math manipulatives, high school science probes, hydrogen fuel cars, drones and "dronology" curriculum for high school, summer camp for the blind and visually-impaired and computer software for modeling and coding.

Forty-five Idaho educators and business professionals reviewed the grant applications. Grants were ranked based on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning needs of the students; support of Idaho standards in math, science and/or English language arts; fiscal sustainability; measuring outcomes and impacts; and using a creative and original approach to teaching STEM.
