Eugenie Simons

Nikiski, AK resident Eugenie M. Simons, 91, passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016 at Heritage Place in Soldotna, AK.

Eugenie was born Jan. 18, 1925 in Los Angeles, Calif. and graduated from high school in San Bernardino, Calif.  She was a homemaker and moved to Nikiski in 2009 and to Heritage Place 4 years ago.

Eugenie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She was an avid reader, talented seamstress, organizer and planner.

Her family wrote, “She was proud of her Icelandic heritage and family who settled in Gimli, Manitoba, Canada in 1872.  At 16, she lived through the bombing of Pearl Harbor at Hicken Field.  She had a great love for her husband, Clyde.  Her last four years were spent surrounded by the best loving and caring staff in the country at Heritage Place. Thank you for all of your good care.  Mom went very peacefully with her family and Heritage Place family all around her.”

Eugenie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Rowe, brother, James Rowe, daughter, Petie E. Payton and husband, Louis Clyde Simons, Sr.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Philip Smith of Nikiski, Alaska; son, Louis Clyde Simons, Jr., of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
