PREP ROUNDUP: Genesis Prep boys clinch North Star title

CLARK FORK — Senior Caleb Symons had his way inside, dropping a game-high 25 points to lead the Genesis Prep Jaguars past the Clark Fork Wampus Cats 70-29 on Tuesday night to clinch the North Star League title in their first year of play in the league.
Jonny Hillman added 12 for Genesis Prep (13-4, 9-0 NSL), which returns to action Feb. 5 vs. Mullan at Post Falls Middle School.
Wade Stevens led Clark Fork (2-12, 2-5) with seven points.

ST. MARIES — Jake Sieler had 21 points, four steals and three assists to lead the Lumberjacks, who are ranked No. 1 in this week’s state media basketball poll, past the Knights in a nonleague game.
“We got off to a really slow start and tried a different lineup,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “In the third quarter, we started to play Lumberjack basketball. For a team that was short-handed, Lakeside came out and played tough and were right with us for the first half.”
Brady Martin had 10 points and eight rebounds and Nate Masterson had eight points and seven rebounds for St. Maries (15-1), which hosts Kellogg in the Brawl for the Ball spirit game on Saturday.
Leroy Whaley-Arroyo had eight points for Lakeside (4-12), which plays at Clark Fork on Saturday.

North Idaho Christian (16-1, 9-0 MCL) will pick up another victory on Friday as league foe Pullman Christian is forfeiting. The Royals’ next game is next Tuesday vs. Lakeside at Woodland Middle School.

RATHDRUM — Savannah Pruitt had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks in a 4A Inland Empire League loss to the Bears at Hawk Court.
Gracie Meyer scored 13 points for Moscow (7-7, 2-1 4A IEL), which led 24-9 at the end of the first quarter.
“It was senior night, and it’s always kind of tough in the first quarter getting through the emotion of that and playing a basketball game,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “Moscow executed really well against our zone and shot a high percentage in the first quarter. Every pass they made was the right pass and every shot they took was a good shot. We settled down and played good basketball after that, and cut the deficit to 11, but just couldn’t get over the hump.”
Faith Bodak had eight points, seven rebounds and three assists and Tauna Kirk had nine points for Lakeland (4-13, 0-3), which travels to Lake City on Friday.

“They jumped out on us and shot 9 of 13 in the first quarter from the field and took control of the game,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “We had to extend our defense a little bit, but they shot the ball really well, especially in the first quarter. I thought we played a little better in the third, but St. Maries is a really good team.”
Devyn Wilson scored 10 points for St. Maries (13-2), which hosts Kootenai on Thursday.
Lillian Rhea scored 12 points and Corin Peone added 10 points for Lakeside (10-5), which plays at Clark Fork on Saturday.

“I thought they played really well,” Genesis Prep coach Debbie Holte said. “It was good to get our inside game going. We executed well and played together.”

COEUR d’ALENE — Rayla Andrews of the Royals totaled 11 points, 16 rebounds, four blocked shots and six steals, helping North Idaho Christian beat Kootenai Thunder in Mountain Christian League action at Holy Family Catholic School.
The Royals clinched the regular season title and No. 1 seed going into the MCL tournament.
Alexis Ralls scored 11 points and Emily Burke grabbed 11 rebounds for North Idaho Christian (10-11, 7-1).
Marian Soderberg scored eight points for Kootenai Thunder.
North Idaho Christian plays Thursday at Pullman Christian School.
The MCL tournament will be Feb. 11-13 at The Oaks in Spokane Valley.
