March For Life is today
Annual Right to Life Commemorative March and Rally set for 10 a.m.
Right to Life of Coeur d'Alene is holding its 36th annual "Right to Life Commemorative March and Rally" today, one day after the 43rd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.
The landmark decision, ruled by the United States Supreme Court, supported the constitutional right for a woman to choose to have an abortion.
The rally is part of the national "March For Life," held annually in Washington, D.C., for the past 43 years. The national rally was held yesterday despite weather conditions that shut down the nation's capital at noon.
Connie Frank, Right to Life Coeur d'Alene member, said the rally is a chance for people to stand up for life, from conception until natural death.
"It is for everyone," Frank said. "It's a public display of people who stand up for life."
She said the rally and march will last about an hour and there will be two guest speakers — Pat Connell from No One Shall Die Alone in Coeur d'Alene and Kathy Albi from the Post Falls Pregnancy Support Center. Pastor Ed Pace from the First Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake will be Master of Ceremony.
The event begins at 10 a.m. today at Skate Plaza, located at the corner of Dalton and Highway 95. From there, Frank said the group will march along the bike path to Kmart, turn around and return to Skate Plaza.
All signs will be provided at Skate Plaza by Right to Life Coeur d'Alene.
