Nancy Ann Wood, 78
Heaven welcomed Nancy Ann Wood, of Post Falls, Idaho, in the early morning hours of Jan. 18, 2016. She was born in Bedford, Ind., on July 7, 1937, to James Francis and Elizabeth Mary Hodson.
She spent most of her life in Santa Ana, Calif., with her two brothers, John William and Timothy Alan, who preceded her in death. She graduated from St. Vincent’s Nursing School in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1957 and worked as a nurse until she married Max C. Wood on June 2, 1962. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2006. Together they had three children: Julie Ann Hunt (Michael), Katherine Mary “Katie” Maret (Tim), both of Post Falls, and Michael Craig Wood (Shelley), of Colville, Wash.
In the early 1990s, the whole family moved to Post Falls and have never looked back. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren Shawn Michael, Karen Ann and Ryan Alexander Hunt, Mark William, Kevin Timothy and Kaylee Marie Maret, Annalee Betelihem and Megan Lynae Wood, Mishell Hunt Wilson (Gavin), Malia Lee Hunt Womak (Philip) and Victoria Sarah Trace; and one great-grandson, Patrick Dempsey Wilson.
Nancy loved to read and documented over 6,000 books, not only in the order she read them, but also by author and alphabetically. She was always willing to lend a hand, whether it was baby-sitting, counting lunch or fundraiser money or as Treasurer of her Tuesday morning Bowling League she and her friends so enjoyed.
She was a recorder, documenting everything from details of family vacations, cataloging her extensive stamp collection, journaling her day to day life and even keeping track of her winnings when she played slot machines. She also loved bingo, word searches, crosswords, scrabble, Yahtzee or any card game. She was also a very talented piano player.
Nancy was her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader. She attended all sporting events, theater productions, scouting and school events that her children and grandchildren participated in. She loved to watch Mariner baseball, Seahawk football and Gonzaga basketball.
She enjoyed the company of her bingo friends and for the last six months of her life, made new friends with her fellow residents and staff at The Lodge in Post Falls. They made her part of a new family. We will forever be grateful for all they did for our mom and as she would always say, “thank you for everything.”
Join us to celebrate her life at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at St. George’s Catholic Church, 2010 N. Lucas St., Post Falls. Reception to follow, before burial at Evergreen Cemetery, 2834 N. Spokane St., Post Falls. Please view and sign Nancy’s online registry at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
