SWIMMING

Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team: Twenty swimmers from the Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team attended the 40th annual Washington Open meet in Federal Way, Wash.

987 swimmers from the western half of the country representing 50 teams were in attendance. CAST finished 12th in the combined results, with the women placing 6th and the men 14th.

Sarah Nicholls highlighted the team’s swims, winning the 200 yard breaststroke and finishing second in the 100 yard breaststroke, missing the Inland Empire record in the 100 by .01 seconds. She also finished 11th in the 100 butterfly. Jon Archer (7th in the 100 backstroke, 16th in the 400 IM), Maggie de Tar (8th in the 500 freestyle, 12th in the 200 freestyle and 14th in the 200 butterfly) and Nicole Rozier (8th place in both the 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly, 15th in the 200 freestyle and 16th in the 100 freestyle) rounded out the top 8 finishers for Coeur d’Alene.

CAST’s women’s relays finished top-8 in all 5 of their races, breaking 3 team records in the process. Other top-16 finishers included Chang He (10th in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, 13th in the 200 IM); Cole Curtis (11th in the 200 breast, 14th in the 100 breaststroke); Emily Deitz (13th in the 200 backstroke); and Ian Rector (15th in the 200 breaststroke).
