PREP ROUNDUP: Third-quarter spurt lifts Cd'A at Lakeland

RATHDRUM — Coeur d’Alene broke open a close game with an 18-4 run in the third quarter en route to a 56-42 victory over Lakeland in nonleague play Tuesday night at Hawk Court.
“They created some turnovers, and we turned the ball over a number of times in that quarter,” Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. “They did some press, some trap, some straight man-to-man.”
Joey Naccarato scored a game-high 19 points for Coeur d’Alene (12-2), which travels to Lewiston on Friday in 5A Inland Empire League play.
Kaden Davis scored 12 points and Dylan Knight grabbed six rebounds for Lakeland (5-10), which is idle until visiting Lake City on Jan. 29.

SPIRIT LAKE — In its first game after being ranked No. 1 in the state 2A boys basketball poll, the Lumberjacks raced to a 51-24 halftime lead on its way to a nonleague win over the Tigers.
St. Maries shot 56 percent in the first half, while Timberlake shot 30 percent. The Lumberjacks (12-1) were led in scoring by junior post Kiefer Gibson, who scored 22 points. Bryant Asbury added 13 points.
“They came out firing and knocked down shots,” Timberlake coach Tony Hanna said. “Asbury shot three 3-pointers in the first half. They pressure well and they beat us on the boards.”
Daniel Smith, Dock Sommers, Brendan Jessen and Brady Nowlan had eight points each for Timberlake (4-9), which visits Kellogg on Friday.
St. Maries plays Thursday at home against Coeur d’Alene Charter.

PLUMMER — Takota Abrahamson hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with under a minute remaining, and the Knights held on for a double overtime win against the Wampus Cats in North Star League play at Ron Miller Court.
“We came out fine offensively,” Lakeside coach Butch Nomee said. “But it just seemed like we were flat and didn’t have any real motivation. We just went stagnant in the fourth quarter and kind of let up off the gas and Clark Fork fought hard and played well the entire game. We’re just fortunate to come out with the win.”
Bryar Sanchez had 26 points, seven rebounds, eight steals and four assists for Lakeside (2-11, 1-3 NSL), which faces Genesis Prep on Friday at Post Falls Middle School.

“We had opportunities to stay with them early, and we just couldn’t get the looks to fall,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “They were good looks, but they just didn’t fall. It’s tough to keep pace when we didn’t hit the open shots.”
