NIC: Show hoops some love

| January 20, 2016 8:00 PM

We’re in the throes of basketball season, and although the NFL playoffs dominate the media right now, what’s with the page six article on the NIC basketball game in Sunday’s (Jan. 17th) paper? Come on, guys!

NIC is rated 5th nationally, and No. 1 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC). They played CSI on Saturday and beat them for the second time this season. AND, they beat them on CSI’s home court. Beside the fact that CSI is a major rival, NIC’s former coach Jared Phay is CSI’s current coach. There is a lot of local interest when NIC plays CSI.

So I’m looking for the story in Sunday’s paper. Not on the first page...OK, I can understand that with the interest in the NFL playoffs. The Zags were covered on page one as was prep wrestling, and Vandals and WSU basketball.

OK, so page two maybe...nope, more NFL.

Gotta be on page three. Nope, prep basketball.

Page four...stats and box scores.

Page five...Oh no. More stats, Division I basketball, and continued Zags, WSU, and Vandals coverage.

So on page six, the LAST page of the Sports section, NIC basketball got about one and a half columns, sharing the page with NIC wrestling, more prep wrestling, more Seahawks coverage and “Northwest Notes.” PAGE SIX?

We have to go through six pages to read about the UNDEFEATED NIC Men’s basketball team beating their major rival, CSI. They’re ranked nationally and have two players (Blake, Angola-Rodas) who are ranked among the high scorers nationally.

Where’s the love?
