Women letter riles readers

| January 17, 2016 8:00 PM

A recent letter to the editor critical of women in general and women in Coeur d’Alene in particular unleashed plenty of fury — at the writer and at The Press for publishing the letter. Here are some of the comments on the subject from cdapress.com readers:

•Mommy troubles here?

•How was all this nonsense even published?

•Did you get cut off again, Ekko?

•Half the letters in the Press shouldn’t be printed. That’s what makes this such a great small town newspaper.

•This guy gets it. #voteTrump

•I do see the issues readers have with the Cd’A Press printing this letter. They would like certain types of stories and letters kept out of the Press. Maybe they read the Press to receive other types of information.

But looking at this from another point of view...

Because this letter was printed we now know that there is a potentially dangerous individual in our area that could possibly harm women. He listed his previous name, so we were able to research the Idaho Repository and found out some of his past crimes. He listed his new name, so we know who he currently is and we can be aware of him.

Maybe some don’t feel this information is important to know. But as a woman, and with daughters and nieces, I am grateful to have this information.

While I still understand that maybe the Cd’A Press isn’t the place to publish this type of letter because some don’t read the Press for this type of information, where should these types of letters be published? Or, are some suggesting that this letter, with all of the valuable information that came with it, be discarded and not be seen?

Thank you.
