PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Schoening, Kirscher carry Bulldogs to victory at Moscow
MOSCOW — The one-two punch of Madi Schoening and Grace Kirscher accounted for as many points as Moscow, as Sandpoint notched a 44-36 win over Moscow in a 4A Inland Empire League clash on Saturday at the Bear Den.
Schoening scored 21 points and grabbed six steals, Kirscher scored 15 and like Schoening hit three shots from beyond the arc, and Riley Couch ran the offense while grabbing four boards and dishing out three assists for the Bulldogs (9-8, 2-0 4A IEL), who jumped out early with a 17 point first quarter and held the Bears (5-7) off from there.
Sandpoint head coach Duane Ward called it a tough ball game and a solid win, and was pleased that his team committed only seven turnovers and dictated the action.
“We kept control for three quarters, then Moscow started coming hard. We thought our girls did a really good job of keeping their composure in the last three minutes,” said Ward. “Any time you come down to Moscow and win a ball game, it’s a good win. Madi and Grace carried us offensively, and the other girls battled and took care of the basketball. It was another step in the right direction for us.”
Sandpoint hosts Lewiston on Monday.

The coach added his team got out to a slow start but kept playing through it and got the job done on the defensive end.
