Ex-Lake City star Troxel
promoted to OC at Idaho State
POCATELLO — Idaho State assistant head coach for offense Matt Troxel has been promoted to offensive coordinator, Bengals head coach Mike Kramer announced.
Troxel, a 2004 Lake City High grad, replaces Sheldon Cross as the offensive coordinator. Cross returned home to the Seattle area to take over as the head football coach at Kennedy Catholic High School. Kramer has also promoted Rob Phenicie to assistant head coach for the offense.
Cross, who served as the outside wide receivers coach his first two seasons, just concluded his first year as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Troxel has been an assistant coach at Idaho State since Kramer arrived in November of 2010. He has been the offensive line coach since 2013 where he established one of the best units in the Big Sky Conference.
In 2014 the offensive line allowed only 15 sacks and the offense racked up a school record 6,744 total yards. The offense produced 2,567 rushing yards and 4,177 passing yards. The offensive line allowed only 18 sacks in 2015.
Shadow announce creation
of women’s team for NWPL
Spokane SC Shadow was announced as one of the founding members of the Northwest Premier League, an elite statewide league designed as an opportunity for top women’s players to compete at an elite level during the summer. The NWPL, created by members of the successful EPLWA men’s league, will kick off this year.
Spokane is the third team to be unveiled as a founding member of the league, which is in the midst of introducing its first six clubs. Other sides previously announced earlier this week are the Olympic Force and South Sound FC, both also members of EPLWA.
Spokane’s NWPL side will feature a mix of current and recent collegiate players.
The Shadow men won the league championship the past two seasons. Spokane fielded a women’s team, the Spokane Shine, which won the 2012 Northwest Division regular season title in the Women’s Premier Soccer League.
Further information on the formation of the Shadow NWPL team such as coaching staff, tryouts and playing venue will be announced at a later date.
Phares named new
pro at Indian Canyon
SPOKANE — Spokane native, Doug Phares has been named head golf professional at Indian Canyon Golf Course.
Since 2000, Phares has worked in Clarkston as the head pro at the Clarkston Golf and Country Club. Prior to working in Clarkston, he was the head pro at the StoneRidge Golf Course in Blanchard. Phares has experience working with the Spokane Parks and Recreation Division as an assistant golf professional at both Downriver and the Creek and Qualchan golf courses.
Former Idaho player takes over
Vandal golf program
MOSCOW — David Nuhn returned to his alma mater this week as the head men’s golf coach for the University of Idaho. Nuhn, a Moscow High grad, graduated in 2010 after a standout career as a Vandal.
