Hayden family gets a spot on 'AFV,' airing Sunday

Cheryl Engle from Hayden had no idea her daughter was recording the scene when her son kissed their dog more than a year ago.

Her daughter, Haven, who was 10 at the time, thought it was funny enough to catch on camera — apparently producers of “America's Funniest Home Videos” television show thought the same thing.

The clip is set to air Sunday on “AFV.”

Engle said her son, Shire, 11 years old at the time, was on the couch with her and their dog, Princess Leia. Shire leaned over and kissed Leia. Engle said they like to tease him that the first girl he ever kissed was a dog named Leia.

But then it turned into more than a kiss.

"At this point he was just opening up his mouth as wide as he could and just letting her clean it out," Engle said.

Engle said she was trying to concentrate on something else at the time when she heard "gross, slopping sounds." She said there had been many times previously where she asked him not to do that, and said this time all she could do was stare at him, feeling as though she might throw up.

Shire finally stopped after Engle told him it was making her sick to her stomach.

While it may have been disgusting, Engle said the entire incident was quite comical. In the video, Engle said it is obvious she didn't know Haven was recording, but after she saw it she decided to send it to “AFV.”

"It's very embarrassing and it's funny and it's gross," she said of the video. "I consider Shire and the dog the stars, and I'm the innocent bystander and my daughter is the videographer."

Haven and Shire attend Sorensen Elementary in Coeur d'Alene and are excited about the video. Engle said Shire thinks the video airing on television is the "coolest thing on the planet."

Sunday's show starts at 7 p.m. on KXLY, channel 4.
