TERMINAL: Speak out against it
In the wake of the international climate negotiations in Paris, human-caused climate change is in the news as a pressing human and political issue. While many high-level politicians continue to make unbinding agreements and shun addressing the issue, people from all over the world are making their voices heard and calling for responsible action on all levels.
At the same time, yet another proposal is on the table for a huge coastal oil terminal, this one in Vancouver, Washington. The Tesoro-Savage terminal would have a huge impact locally and globally, causing approximately 54 million metric tons of CO2 emissions each year. Projects like this one are directly linked to a disastrous rise in average temperatures. Already, with less than a 1 degree Celsius rise, we’re seeing shorter, warmer winters and dry, fiery summers like this last one. Scientists say that those changes will intensify.
The good news is that the Tesoro-Savage project hasn’t been approved yet. On January 14, 2016, there’s a public hearing at Centerplace Regional Event Center, 2426 N. Discovery Place, Spokane Valley, WA, from 5:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.--- a chance for us to speak up against this crazy idea. Join me in standing up for our community and our children’s futures!
