LEWISTON — Whitney Meier scored 16 points and Bridget Rieken snared 16 rebounds, helping the Lake City Timberwolves pull away in the second half to down the Lewiston Bengals 48-39 in a 5A Inland Empire League game Tuesday night at Booth Hall.
“In the third quarter, we played really well,” Lake City coach Bryan Kelly said. “Bridget Rieken’s effort was great, it kept us in the game. I was proud of our guards, we scored seven points in 30 seconds during the fourth quarter. Whitney hit a 3 and we hit some free throws. They did a good job of finishing the game. Olivia Maryon did a great job handling their full-court pressure. It’s a big win for these girls. This was the first time they’ve beat Lewiston.”
Keara Simpson grabbed eight rebounds for Lake City (13-3, 2-1 5A IEL).
Abbey Roy finished with 11 points for Lewiston (10-5, 1-2).
Lake City plays Friday at Coeur d’Alene in the Fight for the Fish game.

POST FALLS — Melody Kempton scored 17 points and AubreAnna Johnson had nine points and 11 rebounds off the bench for the Trojans in a 5A Inland Empire League win against the Vikings at The Arena.
“Thought we made some adjustments in the second half and the kids played really well,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “I really liked the way that Aubree played. She just came in and immediately started getting rebounds that we weren’t getting in the first half. Thought she really took care of the rebounding part of it and took it to the basket and scored really well. Really attacked the basket and played well.”
Bayley Brennan had 13 points for six assists for Post Falls (11-6, 3-0 5A IEL), which plays at Lake City on Jan. 22.
“We’re happy with where we’re at, but there’s still more to come,” Allert said. “Things arent’ going to get any easier.”
Rey Louden scored 12 points and Emily Callahan added 10 points for Coeur d’Alene (6-8, 0-3), which hosts Lake City in the Fight for the Fish spirit game on Friday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Kelly Ruebke scored nine points, but the Panthers lost a nonleague game to the Badgers at Holy Family Catholic School.
“We didn’t handle their press very well,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Doug Grant said. “They shoot well, they can score from just about anywhere on the floor. The biggest thing was we were down by 40 and I put my bench in, we went on a 12-2 run. They had some great energy.”
Trinity Golder scored 11 points for Bonners Ferry (2-6).

“We were able to take control of the game from the beginning,” Genesis Prep coach Debbie Holte said. “We were able to get the ball inside to Bella and it opened things up for our offense and got everything going. It was a good night for us to play some basketball.”
