Mardi Gras event returns to Cd'A
The Coeur d’Alene Arts & Culture Alliance will celebrate Mardi Gras, Coeur d’Alene-style.
Krewe d’Alene will be held Saturday, Feb. 6 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge, 209 E. Sherman Avenue, in Coeur d’Alene.
The event’s name has Big Easy roots as deep as the evening’s planned events. A krewe is an organization that puts on a parade or ball for the carnival season. Believed to have been coined in the early 1800s, it is the most common term for a New Orleans carnival organization.
Krewe d’Alene promises New Orleans-style fun, with entertainment ranging from jugglers and dancers, to the traditional King Cake and beads, to models wearing masks created and donated by local artists, and later auctioned.
Renowned chef Kris McIlvenna — from the Greenbriar Inn and 315 Martinis and Tapas — is preparing a traditional New Orleans dinner for all revelers.
Hot Damn Scandal from Bellingham, Wash., will perform what they call “Tipsy American Gypsy Blues.” From outlaw ballads to string band funk to whiskey bottle love songs, they’ll offer tunes perfect for dancing the night away.
As part of the fun, the person who donates the most to the Coeur d’Alene Arts & Culture Alliance between Jan. 6
