Albert Glenn Monie, 88
Albert Glenn Monie, 88, entered heaven on Jan. 1, 2016, in his home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was born March 13, 1927, to his parents Arthur and Carrie (Rauls) Monie on the Monie Homestead in Marquand, Mo.
Glenn grew up in Marquand, Mo., and worked on the family farm until 1945, when he enlisted in the Navy. After World War II he met Evelyn Hansen, they married Feb. 4, 1949. After many moves and jobs they settled in Whittier, Calif., where Glenn worked for Norris Industries for greater than 30 years.
After Glenn raised five children, mentored numerous grandchildren and worked seven days a week, Glenn retired to a life of travel and fishing. They joined an RV Caravan to Alaska in 1989 and toured all 49 states before settling down in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1992. At this stage of life, he played with his six youngest grandchildren, enjoyed his one-acre garden, fished and volunteered at Holy Family Catholic School. Later in life he joined the Welcomers and enjoyed friendships as well as pinochle. He celebrated grandchildren’s weddings, graduations and awards.
Glenn taught us all with peaceful tolerance. He was the patriarch of a strong family.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his children, David (Anne), Mary, Joe (Cathy), Tom (Diana) and Kathy (Joe); 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sisters, Anne Combs, Rosida Mouser and Catherine Kaehr; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Russell and Edward Monie; grandson Jacob Traw and great-great-granddaughter Chloe Jackson.
His memory and love will remain with us all.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at St. Pius X Parish in Coeur d’Alene. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Holy Family Catholic School or Hospice of North Idaho. Evelyn and family would like to thank the Coeur d’Alene U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Hospice of North Idaho for their exemplary service.
