A cure for the "common" headache

Headaches mean big business, and this is especially the case when the cause underlying the headache pain goes undetected, and therefore the headache pain is not successfully treated. Drugs are not a cure; they are not like antibiotics which actually kill bacteria that are causing the sickness. Drugs only mask the headache pain symptoms until the drug wears off, and they can cause other problems and even make the pain worse so one has to take even higher doses of drugs.

The National Headache Foundation (NHF) has estimated that employers lose about $50 billion (that’s right: billion) every year due to the medical expenses, as well as the lost days of work caused by headaches. Migraine patients lose over 157 million workdays annually. When the underlying cause of the pain is not properly diagnosed and treated, patients usually go from physician to chiropractor to physical therapist to acupuncturist to massage therapist to whatever searching for relief. Many just lose hope; they think or are told that headaches are “normal” for them because of their work, their stress, their genetics, or whatever. But do not confuse the word “normal” with the word “common.” Headaches are not normal but they are common.

Many people who suffer monthly, weekly, or daily headaches may be reluctant to get their hopes up and risk disappointment in another possible cure. But you haven’t given up yet, because you are still reading this article. You need to find a way to treat the cause of your pain, not just mask it and live a life that isn’t the real you. Many of you do not even know who you really are, since you have been dealing with this pain for so long. You avoid so many different foods, types of music, kinds of exercise, etc., that you don’t know what a normal life for you really is.

What if your head, neck, shoulder, or facial pain is just from an imbalance in the way your teeth come together? What if that is also the cause of your vertigo and tinnitus? What if that is also the cause of your sleep problems? Here are a few simple things that can indicate that your problem may be related to your bite:

• If you have head, neck, shoulder, facial pain and can’t think clearly.

• If you have ear pain or ringing in your ears and the doctor can find nothing wrong.

• If you have temple or forehead pain that you think it is eye strain but doctors find nothing wrong.

• If your jaws are sore and tired after chewing so you have changed to a soft diet.

• If your jaw opens crookedly, not straight.

• If you hear popping, clicking, or grating sounds when you open and/or close your mouth.

• If you think you have a sinus headache but don’t have a runny nose or sneeze a lot.

• If you clench or grind your teeth anytime.

• If you have been in auto accidents, had braces, or suffered whiplash — even 20 years ago!

• If you have ever had a sports injury involving your head like a concussion.

• If you have ever done a “header” in soccer.
