Prep, NIC teams resume speed this week

Some teams took it easy over the Christmas holidays while others kept playing.

This week, everybody is back in the pool, as it were.

Coeur d’Alene and Lake City will meet twice in high school boys and girls basketball in a span of 11 days.

Coeur d’Alene travels to Lake City on Tuesday, with the girls game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game — the 5A Inland Empire League opener for both teams — at 7.

On Jan. 15, Lake City’s boys and girls travel to Coeur d’Alene for the Fight for the Fish spirit games — both of which count in the league standings.

In a 5A IEL tilt on Thursday, Lake City’s girls travel to Post Falls.

Lakeland’s boys open 4A IEL play Tuesday at Sandpoint; Lakeland’s girls open league play Saturday, also at Sandpoint.

Timberlake’s boys open Intermountain League play Friday at home vs. Bonners Ferry. St. Maries’ boys open Central Idaho League play Saturday at home vs. Orofino.

Timberlake’s girls open IML play tonight at home vs. Priest River.

In wrestling, Post Falls and Lakeland head to Nampa for the Rollie Lane Invitational on Friday and Saturday. A little closer to home, Coeur d’Alene and Timberlake are in the field for the Northwest Classic at University High in Spokane on Friday and Saturday.

The North Idaho College men’s and women’s basketball teams return to Scenic West Athletic Conference play this week, hosting Snow on Thursday and Salt Lake on Saturday.
