Jack Oliver Delavan, 86

Jack Oliver Delavan, 86, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away Dec. 26, 2015, at Hospice House of North Idaho.

He was born Oct. 16, 1929, in Coeur d’Alene to Oliver and Edna (Erickson) Delavan.

Jack grew up in Coeur d’Alene and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1947. It was there in his senior year of high school that he met the love of his life Beverly Johnston. They married in 1950 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June of this year.

Jack Sr. started Delavan Masonry in the early 1950s which became the finest craftsman masonry business in North Idaho. The business continues today with owner operator Jack Jr.

Jack Sr. built the family home on Lake Coeur d’Alene where he and Beverly raised their four children, Jack Jr., Greg, Debbie and Shari.

His many interests included boating on the lake, hunting and fishing in the Idaho backcountry, competitive skeet shooting, bowling and golf. He and partners built and owned Sunset Bowling Center.

He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Elks Club, a board member of the Hayden Lake Country Club and one of the founding fathers of the Coeur d’Alene Skeet and Trap Club. It was said “Jack is the only man I know that bowled a 300 game, had a hole in one, and broke 100 straight in skeet.”

He is survived by his wife, Beverly at the family home. His children Jack Delavan Jr. (Jill), Greg Delavan (Ellen) of Coeur d’Alene, Debbie Taylor (Larry) of Tualatin, Ore., and Shari Eberle (Tyler) of Coeur d’Alene; and brother Frank and Janet Delavan of Coeur d’Alene.

He adored his eight grandchildren, Lisa Eberle Carr, Nick Delavan, Kate Delavan, Lindsay Taylor Janoff, Kara Eberle, Jesse Delavan, Lauren Taylor and Michaela Delavan.

He also leaves behind two very special great-grandchildren Olivia and Jaxsen Delavan.

To say he was a unique man’s man is a gross understatement. There will never be another Jack Delavan. His family will miss him greatly.

A private family service was held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016. Arrangements by Yates Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coeur d’Alene Skeet and Trap Club, the Coeur d’Alene Carousel Foundation or Hospice House of North Idaho.
