Dorothy was raised back east, her father a prominent reverend and mother a teacher. She graduated from Winston High School and went on to attend Lincoln Memorial University with a degree in nursing. She did a residency at Philadelphia Memorial Hospital and told stories of how they would black out the windows during the war.

The family moved to California in the late 1940s. Dorothy met M. Dwane Reiss, an Army World War II veteran in Lost Lake, Calif., and married in 1957. They resided in Long Beach, Calif., with their daughter until moving to Blythe, Calif., permanently in 1971. There Dorothy worked at Palo Verde Hospital as an RN and Director of Nursing. She then went to work for Riverside County Health Department and lastly a Director of Nursing at Blythe Convalescent Hospital.

Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Blythe. Her Hobbies were crocheting, knitting, reading and some local travel, but most of all her love and passion was quilting. She owned her own quilt shop and taught quilting classes with her sister, Betty Doss, from 1981-1985 in Cambria, Calif. Dorothy moved to Hayden in 2001 to be closer to her daughter and family.

Above all else, Dorothy was the most loving grandmother and enjoyed her time spent watching her granddaughters grow up. They were the sparkle of her heart. She leaves many beautiful memories and lived and loved life to the fullest. She will be deeply missed.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Dottie Ann Schoene and son-in-law Douglas E. Schoene of Spokane Valley, Wash.; her sister, Mrs. Ruth VanKorlaar of Diamond Bar, Calif.; granddaughters Nicolette Barcia of Spokane Valley, Brooke Barcia of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Sierra Schoene of Spokane Valley.
