Norman Bratlie, 85
Norman D. Bratlie, 85, of Coeur d’Alene, died Feb. 17, 2016, at his home. He was born May 12, 1930, in Clear Lake, S.D., to Olaf and Dorothy (Spiering) Bratlie.
He moved with his family to the Hayden Lake area in 1935 and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1949. He married Gail Cooper in 1951 and served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a radar technician. After military service he attended North Idaho College and then the University of Idaho, graduating in 1958 with a degree in forestry.
Norm worked for the Coeur d’Alene office of the Bureau of Land Management and Reforestation before starting his own company of Bratlie Forestry Inc. He was a member of the Association of Consulting Foresters, Coeur d’Alene Skeet and Trap Club, Trinity Lutheran Church and past president of Avondale Golf Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and gardening.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Walker of Olympia, Wash.; grandsons Jason (Jesse) Walker, Ross (Amanda) Walker, Travis (Karla) Bratlie and Brandon (Lisa) Bratlie; granddaughter Heather Bratlie-Natal; great-grandchildren Justin and Skylar Bratlie-Natal, Hannah Bratlie, Steven, Madison and Brandon Jr. Bratlie, Caleb and Kellan Walker; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail in 2002; their son, Steven Bratlie in 1988; his son-in-law, Todd Walker in 2012; and brothers Harold Bratlie and Kenneth Bratlie.
