ELDON: Do what's right

| February 24, 2016 8:00 PM

I take exception to the Editorial in the Coeur d’Alene Press on Sunday 2-21-16.

First, not having an opportunity to read the transcript from Samuel’s trial, I didn’t understand the charge of 1st degree murder. Only having the information from the Press, it sounded like 2nd degree to me.

Second, did society fail Samuel? Absolutely! Again, not having access to any report of the times police, CPS or any other agency was called to his “home” in California and here, I can’t state specifics. But based on information from the Press, he got lost in the cracks.

The last thing in the world I would be called is a “bleeding heart” — just ask any of my friends. If you asked them if they considered me a “bleeding heart,” they would hurt themselves laughing. However, I am in total agreement that Judge Simpson should seriously consider sending Samuel to a state mental facility for evaluation and treatment! Should he be held accountable? Yes! But I don’t believe sending him to state prison is in anyone’s best interest.

Again, a “bleeding heart” I’m not, just ask anyone who knows me. That has nothing to do with Judge Simpson, hopefully, doing what’s right in this case — in my opinion.
