SALMON FEAST: Thanks for ‘Going Wild’ for Family Promise

The 8th Annual Wild Salmon Feast to benefit Family Promise of North Idaho took place Feb. 7, 2016. It was sponsored by three Lutheran Churches in the area — Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church of the Master, and St. Mark’s Lutheran. Over 200 people enjoyed the dinner, featured music, silent and live auctions and a delicious dessert auction. Raised in the evening festivities was a best-ever net total of $15,043 in support of FPNI’s mission to shelter, feed and provide solutions to families in crisis. The evening would not have been possible were it not for the grilling mastery of Russell Flamm and Bill Dougherty. Their amazing seasonings and techniques ensured the signature entrée — wild caught salmon from the cold waters of Alaska — was excellent! The chefs were most aptly assisted by Bill Robinette and Craig Leaf. Special thanks to the a! mazing kitchen and bar crew: Devlin Dougherty, Wendy Gunderson, Jeff Weiss, Nikki Betts, Richard Jurvelin, Bob and Sandy Davis, Chris and Laurie Green, Peter Riggs and Stephen Johnson. Prize donors and major contributors to be recognized were Coldwell Banker Schneidmiller Realty, Thrivent Financial, Richard & Jill Jurvelin, Trinity Lutheran Church, Capone’s Pub & Grill, A to Z Rental, Pastry & More, BreadCo, Trinity Lutheran Church Women, Richard and Jill Jurvelin, Dougherty & Associates CPAs, Roland & Toby Curtis, Kiwanis Club of CDA, Lutheran Church of the Master, St. Mark’s Lutheran, Community United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, ROW Adventures, Fins & Feathers Tackle Shop, Black Sheep Sporting Goods, Kay & JoAnn Nelson, Fort Ground Grill, John Flaherty, The Hairdresser, Post Falls Parks Department Crew, Total Life Chiropractic, Andy Paroni, P1FCU, Call of the Wild Tattoo, Marion Keating, Sweetwater Bakery, Namaste Foods, Bill & Mary Robinette, Sunflower Cot! tage, Carol MacLean, Alice DeShazer, Mike Wood, Lakeside Quilting & Design, Teri Burch, Laughing Cobra Yoga — Mary Morrow, Marion Bunting, Eula Hickam and Doug & Marilee Renfrew. Hats off to the decorating team of Jill Jurvelin, Toby Curtis, Sharon Hanson and Sandy Patano. Finally, I would like to give special praise to the youth of Trinity Lutheran Church who handled waiting tables with good humor and efficiency; Jerry and Terry Fairchild and Alex Kirkpatrick with Robert Singletary, who provided beautiful music for the evening; LeeAnn Freshour, our talented auctioneer; Cindy Wood with the FPNI Board and staff; and Master of Ceremonies Sandy Patano, who pulled it all together with wit and charm. Finally, hats off to the many individuals who provided scrumptious desserts for the Dessert Auction — which by itself raised over $5,000! Thank you to everyone for ‘going wild’ for Family Promise of North Idaho, and giving a ‘hand up’ to families in crisis of homelessness.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Parents of Cd’A athlete grateful for support

Our son, Jim Kinnard is on the Coeur d’Alene Special Olympics Alpine ski team and we are very grateful for the support from the community! First of all, Ski Shack of Hayden generously provides free rentals for all the athletes. Many of their customers have donated clothing and ski equipment to our program for our athletes and volunteers to use. The alpine team (snowboard and downhill ski) currently have 10 active athletes and 18+ volunteers. The team meets Sundays at Silver Mountain In Kellogg. Silver Mountain generously provides Sunday passes for all the participants, athletes and volunteers! The staff there have been great and very attentive to our team. They have set up a practice race course for our athletes the past Sundays. Sunday was time trials and thanks to our coach Tim Neary and volunteers Kriss and Randy Teeters for their great timing abilities and patience! Regionals are set for Saturday, February 20 at Silver Mountain. Thanks to Great Harvest Bread, Donut House, Hayden Walmart, and Super 1 Foods in Hayden for offering to donate desserts and baked goods for our regionals event. The Silver Valley team is hosting the event and they plan to serve dinner for over 250 participants. We will have opening ceremonies then after the events we will meet back for closing ceremonies, awards, dinner and a victory dance. If anyone would like more information about our program or volunteer opportunities please contact our Local Program Coordinator, Gregory Quinn at gearchecker@yahoo.com or cell 208-651-9852.

Thanks also to Peak Fitness in Cd’A for sponsoring the floor hockey team and allowing them to practice at their facility on Saturday mornings. We are fortunate to be a part of such a giving community!

Thanks,

Jann and Jeff Kinnard
