Ted Cruz plans North Idaho visit
COEUR d’ALENE — Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz has tentatively set his sights on the Coeur d’Alene area with plans to hold a rally here on March 7.
Lora Gervais, who is campaigning for Cruz in North Idaho, confirmed Friday that Ted Cruz will be in North Idaho at 10 a.m., March 7, but the location has yet to be secured.
“We have tentatively reserved the Greyhound Park in Post Falls, but we are waiting to hear from the campaign to see if that is the type of venue they are looking for,” Gervais said, adding she expects Cruz to draw a couple thousand supporters.
Gervais said she has confirmation from the Cruz campaign that the candidate has it on his schedule, but there is a slight chance that could change between now and the event.
“Officially we have to say it is 95 percent chance that he will be here, but that’s just how politics go,” she said after consulting with Norm Semanko, who is Cruz’s statewide coordinator. “Cruz already had to adjust his schedule to attend (the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin) Scalia's funeral.”
Gervais said she is part of the state leadership team for Cruz and she is also his coalition coordinator.
She caucused for Cruz in Iowa and she is state delegate for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, later this summer.
Gervais said she assumes the campaign will issue tickets to the event online through Eventbrite.com. Tickets were not available Friday, but should be available once the venue is secured.
Gervais said she will post more information as it becomes available on her Kootenai County for Cruz Facebook page.
