SWIMMING
Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team: The Inland Empire 14 and Under Championships were held at the Asotin pool complex in Clarkston this past weekend and the Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team Crocs finished third out of 13 teams. The meet is a showcase for new and upcoming swimmers, and is the first prelims/finals format meet for many of the athletes in attendance. 34 CAST swimmers competed against 240 other athletes from Idaho, eastern Washington, and eastern Oregon.
Rylie Rassmussen (14) led the charge for CAST scoring 47 points individually and ended up second in the high point race. Rylie won the 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 200 backstroke, and 200 breaststroke. She also finished in 3rd in the 100 butterfly and 4th in the 500 freestyle. On the men’s side new swimmer Zach Linford (8) scored 41 points, finishing in the top eight in 7 of his events. Isabelle Downing (11) had a breakout meet and scored 41 points and placed first in the 500 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, and added 4 other top eight marks. She finished second in the high point race for 11-12 year old girls.
Sisters Dani (9) and Gracie (12) Tucker combined to score 71 of CASTs point total, with older sister Gracie picking up 39 of them. Gracie won the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle, and was 2nd in the 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, and 200 freestyle. Dani placed 1st in the 50 backstroke, 2nd in the 100 freestyle, and had 6 other top eight finishes.
Erin Griffith (8) scored 43 points, highlighted by her victory in the 25 backstroke. She was also second in the 50 butterfly, 25 breaststroke, 50 backstroke, and 25 butterfly with 3 other top 8 finishes. Her brother Steven was not far behind with 29 points, placing second in the 50 and 100 backstroke.
Hannah Dansereau (14) scored 34 points, with a very difficult slate of events during Sunday night’s finals. In just 24 minutes Hannah swam the 200 backstroke placing 6th, the 100 freestyle finishing 3rd, and then the 200 breaststroke finishing 4th. On Saturday Hannah placed 2nd in the 100 breaststroke, 2nd in the 100 backstroke, and 3rd in the 200 IM.
Jack Fritz (9) swam just one day and scored 21 points. He won the 100 breaststroke by nearly 4 seconds, placed 2nd in the 100 IM, and finished fourth in the 100 freestyle.
Another pair of siblings swam well at the meet: Isaiah Hudlet (11) scored 29 points, claiming runner-up status in the 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. Isaiah had 5 other finishes in the top 8. His brother Joshua (13) scored 30 points and finished fourth 4 times and had 4 other top eight finishes.
Ben Linford (10) scored 28 points and placed 1st in the 100 backstroke (1:30.33), dropping 30 seconds in the event and placing in the top 8 in four other events.
Abby Whiting (13) scored 27 points, finishing 2nd in the 200 breaststroke, 200 backstroke, 200 IM, and 3rd in the 100 backstroke.
