FIREARMS: A dangerous ad

| February 17, 2016 8:00 PM

I enjoyed the advertising spread on pages C4 and C5 of Thursday’s paper, focusing on firearms, but I find it sadly ironic that a page that advertises three firearms training companies has a photo of someone holding a pistol with their finger on the trigger while the muzzle is pointed toward the floor. Unless the shooter is planning to ventilate the floor next to him, his finger should be off the trigger!

Those of us who teach firearms safety always instruct our students to keep their finger off of the trigger until they are absolutely sure they’re ready to put a round down range. Failure to do so has resulted in negligent discharges of weapons, often leading to injury or death. Please do all of us a favor and have someone knowledgeable in firearms handling inspect the photos you plan to use before print time.
