Be a sponsored athlete

| February 17, 2016 8:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d'Alene Triathlon Team is accepting applications for its sponsored athlete program.

The program is open to anyone age 18 and older who is interested in completing a race. Applicants must have overcome a life challenge and must provide a doctor's release if they have a medical condition. The application must include a letter explaining the applicant's situation and need, three references, major goals pertaining to swimming, biking and running and plans to cross the finish line.

Previous sponsored athletes have been cancer survivors, overcome physical injuries, survived family tragedies, experienced significant weight loss, battled brain damage, depression, loss of hearing and more.

Once an applicant is accepted for the sponsored athlete program, he or she will receive a sprint or Olympic CDA Triathlon entry for the competition in August, a Tri Team membership, daily training plan, Physio One services, team apparel and other free training equipment.

It is free to apply for the sponsored athlete program. Application letters must be sent to CDA Tri Team director Megan Leary at megan@cbinw.com by Feb. 29.

"If they're willing to do the 'work' to apply, they'll more than likely make a good candidate for the program," Leary said.
