Free advocacy presentation tonight

| February 16, 2016 8:00 PM

POST FALLS — Lisa Maatz, national vice president of government relations for the American Association of University Women, will speak on "Advocacy can Change the Course of Public Policy" tonight at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center.

The free event will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at 405 N. William St. The public is invited.

Sponsored by the Coeur d'Alene branch of AAUW, the Post Falls presentation is part of a swing through Idaho by Maatz, who is AAUW's top policy analyst. It will be her only presentation in North Idaho.

In addition to other topics, Maatz will specifically address human trafficking and the need for early childhood education, which are AAUW Idaho's areas of focus in 2016. Following her 45-minute talk, she will answer questions from the audience.

Maatz is a familiar face on Capitol Hill, where she regularly testifies on issues of importance to women and girls. She is featured in the book "Secrets of Powerful Women: Leading Change for a New Generation."

The local branch of the AAUW was formed in 1938 and has more than 30 members. The non-partisan AAUW takes policy positions on bills pertaining to its mission.

Light refreshments will be served.
