HISTORY: Keep it accurate

| February 10, 2016 8:00 PM

Popular Press historical writer Syd Albright has a blind spot.

He can’t tell the truth when it might shed an unfavorable light on the Mormon Church.

In his Jan. 17th article, he falsely claimed that the Army was sent to Utah to enforce the separation of church and state. This is so lame, it’s laughable. The Army was sent to Utah to arrest Brigham Young for his alleged involvement in the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1846.

One hundred fifty-one men and boys were murdered by Mormons led by Jason Lee. The church leaders tried to blame the Piute Indians, but the only person executed for this crime was the leader of the murderers, Jason Lee. Lee was not a Piute; he was a Mormon believed to be acting either on orders from or with the knowledge of Brigham Young.

Syd owes your readers an apology. A historian should tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. A respected historian should not participate in a 150-year-old coverup.
