Charter slips past Maniacs
GENESEE — Mae Alexander’s putback at the buzzer lifted the Panthers past the Maniacs 46-44 on Monday night in a loser-out game at the 2A District 1-2 girls basketball tournament at Genesse High.
With the win, Coeur d’Alene Charter (5-17) moves on to face St. Maries on Wednesday in another loser-out game at Genesee. The Lumberjacks fell to Grangeville on Monday.
Alexander scored eight of her 17 points early in the final period to pull the Panthers back into the game.
Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Doug Grant had high praise for his two freshman posts, Elizabeth Lehousit and Emma Bartlett, who grabbed 16 and 11 rebounds, respectively. “They work their tails off, and have really stepped up.”
Myra Rodriguez lead the Maniacs with 22 points, hitting all six of her free throw attempts.

GENESEE — Kelsey Auer finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds and four blocks, sister Kaylee Auer added two points, 11 rebounds and five blocks, but St. Maries fell to Grangeville in the 3A District 1 tournament at Genesee High.
The Lumberjacks (17-3) will face Coeur d’Alene charter in a loser-out game on Wednesday at Genesee.
Grangeville moves on to await the winner of Wednesday night’s St. Maries-Coeur d’Alene Charter loser-out game, with the winner of that game meeting Grangeville in Thursday’s championship game at Genesee.
“We controlled the boards, but we just couldn’t get the offense going tonight,” St. Maries coach Jay Sines said. “I definitely though we played fairly well, and it came down to free throws at the end — they hit theirs and we didn’t.”
