Ruth A. Todd, 85

| February 7, 2016 8:00 PM

Our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother Ruth A. Todd passed away peacefully on Jan. 22, 2016, surrounded by her family at the age of 85. Ruth was born in Winona, Minn., on Oct. 3, 1930, to William M. and E. Ruth Markle.

Ruth was married to Robert H. Todd and had three children from this union. Robert H. Todd Jr., Rebecca L. Applegate-Vetch and William M. Todd.

Ruth was always a hard worker and accomplished many things in her life. Her first job was as a waitress in East Glacier Park, Mont. Later she would go to college to become an X-ray Technician in Minneapolis. She moved to Missouri in 1971 then later moved to Kellogg, Idaho, in 1977 where she and Robert owned Panhandle Office Supply. Ruth also owned a candy shop in Sandpoint, Idaho, called Delightful Diversions and was a co-owner of the Bitteroot Mercantile in Kellogg.

Ruth was very talented and creative. Ruth won the Shoshone County Centennial Flag design contest in 1989. At Panhandle Office Supply, people passing by could enjoy a new display in the front window every week. Ruth loved what she did and enjoyed delighting and entertaining her community.

Ruth retired in Coeur d’Alene in 2000. She was an active member of PEO and enjoyed helping others, planting flowers in her garden, spending time with her beloved dog, Abby, and of course enjoying her family.

Ruth is survived by her children, Chip Todd, Becky Applegate and Bill Todd; her grandchildren, Emily Applegate, Bryan Applegate, Erika Bates, Brooke Todd, Jeffery Furey, Chloe Todd, Bridget Cafferty and Denna Grangaard; and her great-grandchildren, Abigail Applegate and Maci Applegate.

The family would like to thank Creekside Inn and Hospice of North Idaho for their care and kindness during this time. She will be sincerely missed and we would like to thank everyone for their fond memories and kind words about Ruth.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 501 E. Wallace Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814.
