PROTEST: Wrong way to be right

| February 7, 2016 8:00 PM

This past Sunday, Jan. 31st, Candlelight Christian Fellowship was greeted by men who came to our church facilities in an effort to support the right to life for the unborn. They were from an organization called “Abolish Human Abortion North Idaho.” Sadly, these men represent a good cause — in the wrong way.

The signage they employed pictured dismembered human babies who were the victims of abortion. While we at Candlelight are pro-life, are actively doing all within our means to provide counseling, support, and encouragement to women and men who are facing an unplanned pregnancy, are generously supporting Open Arms Pregnancy Care Center here in Coeur d’Alene, and are very outspoken about the evils of human abortion, we seem to be the recipient of attention given by this organization. And why I might ask?

As I told the members of Candlelight, there is a wrong way to be right. These men are right to stand up for those who cannot stand for themselves. They are right to work at ending human abortion. To this we give them applause. However, when we at Candlelight have hundreds of people coming in and out of our building each Sunday — many of whom are children — we don’t feel it appropriate to have them subjected to the horrible pictures displayed by these men — as in the case mentioned above.

Candlelight Christian Fellowship is an extremely conservative Christian church with a solid conviction that abortion is both wrong and should be illegal. We trust the Lord and pray that these well-intentioned men will work hard to abolish human abortion without offending some of their best supporters in the process.
