COEUR d’ALENE — Matt McLeod (120 pounds), Braydon Huber (126), Jason Burchell (132), Alius De La Rosa (145), Brad Noesen (195), Kameron Welker (285) and Mathias De La Rosa (113) won by pin for the Post Falls Trojans in a 60-16 dual victory over the Coeur d’Alene Vikings on Thursday at Coeur d’Alene High.

“Some of the matches, I know we were favorted, but we just outhustled them,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “Sometimes you go into a match and don’t get after it, and the kids really got after it like they were hungry. And that’s good to see this time of year. It was an awesome night, and we felt good about how the kids wrestled for us. Mathias (De La Rosa) got a big win over (Kaleb) Maciosek and really did a great job. It was definitely the match of the night and nice way to wrap up the night.”

Post Falls, now 19-1 in duals this season, hosts Lake City on Wednesday.

“I don’t know if we competed as well as we should have,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “Some of those weights, we didn’t compete well at all. Nobody matches up really well with them, and it would have taken a huge effort to beat them. They’re a better team than we are right now, but that’s not an excuse for not making adjustments and wrestling hard. Hats off to them, they kicked our butt, bottom line.”

Vince Rey (182) and Alex Marshall (220) won by pin and Isaiah Skinner by major decision for Coeur d’Alene, which visits Lewiston on Wednesday.

“Those guys came out and took care of business,” Moffat said. “They beat guys they should have and did a great job.”

Lake City 30

COEUR d’ALENE — It didn’t start great, the middle got better and the finish was pretty exciting for the Timberwolves in a dual loss to the Bengals.

Lewiston won the first four matches before Nathan Lambert (152 pounds), Griffin Schoch (160) and Andrew Olvera (170) won three straight to put Lake City back in the dual.

Freshmen Cyrus Mortensen (106) and Ricky Thomas (113) also had wins for Lake City, but a win by Trevor Rigney of Lewiston in the final match gave the Bengals the dual.

“It was definitely a fun dual to watch,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “We definitely got out to a rocky start, but Lambert, Schoch and Olvera turned it around with a major decision. Both Cyrus and Ricky wrestled hard to give us a chance at the end, but they’ve got a really tough senior and we were a little outmatched in that one.”

Herbert shines for Tigers against Weiser, Fruitland

WEISER — Sophomore Noah Herbert won his first match by pin at 113 pounds, then bumped up to 120 to win by major decision in the Tigers’ dual against the Wolverines and Grizzlies at Weiser High.

“Weiser and Fruitland are two of the best teams in the state in the 3A classification,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “We wanted to see the best, and that’s what we saw. Noah’s one of our better wrestlers and we knew he was going to give up some weight by moving up for his second match. He just stepped up and wrestled against a bigger kid and did a great job.”

Timberlake will compete in the Weiser Invitational today starting at 3 p.m. PST.
