Saturday night sleuthing, the city of Post Falls' Parks and Recreation Department offers “non sporting” activities for kids of all ages

Paul Rambacher knew the murderer was close, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on who.

The Post Falls resident had the clues, suspects and he knew who looked guilty. It could have been his wife, his father, his wife’s friend. Or a complete stranger. He spent two hours trying to crack the case — until somebody else participating in the city of Post Falls Murder Mystery Night solved the faux crime.

“I had a great time,” said Rambacher, who participated in the event last fall. “It’s not a sit and watch event. I got to be a bartender and my wife was a flapper.  My wife got some cheap costumes and we went for it.  I would definitely do it again.”

And that’s exactly what he Post Falls Parks and Recreation Department wants people to do — have fun and come back for more.

“It’s a completely interactive murder mystery,” said Traci Stevenson, Recreation Supervisor with the city. “We send out clues in advance, a summary of what the mystery is, and tell people who their characters are. It’s a lot of fun.  We have another one coming right up.”

Adults 21 and over should register for the “Mysterious Affair at Stirling Hall” by Tuesday, Feb. 9 in order to join the crime solving fun. Tickets cost $55. The non-alcoholic event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the  Trailhead Event Center in Q'emiln Park in Post Falls.

“We will be serving mocktails,” said Stevenson. “There will be prizes for best costume and the person who solves the mystery.”

The city of Post Falls’ Recreation Department has big plans for 2016. The department is creating more “non-sporting” activities for kids of all ages.

“It’s part of a concentrated effort to increase our activities for the community,” said Mitzi Michaud, the Post Falls Recreation Manager. “It’s going to be an exciting year. We’re trying new things and we think people will have a fantastic time.”

Here is a rundown of the activities this month.

A Daddy Daughter Dance (Saturday, Feb. 6)

This first time event is 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Trailhead Event Center. It’s for kids ages 5-12 and their fathers. It’s a family friendly event — including a DJ who will play kid appropriate music. There will be a crafts table, refreshments, and a lot of fun for all who attend. Tickets cost $20 for a dad and daughter, $26 for a dad and two daughters (each additional daughter is $6).

“It’s designed to bring dads and their daughters together in a unique way,” Stevenson said. “Please pre-register at our office or online at postfallsidaho.org.”

Teen Night, Friday Feb. 19

Teenagers (11-16)  can have a Friday night party in a safe environment. The city will use Seltice Elementary School as the venue for Teen night from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.  There will be pizza, refreshments, games, crafts, did we mention pizza?  The structured event will not allow teens to come and go. Tickets cost $5 at the door.

“We’re going to have organized games, obstacle dodgeball, a giant Jenga game,” said Josh Oakes, Post Falls’ Recreation Coordinator. “Teens can hang out and play games with our staff and have a great time.”
