COEUR d'ALENE — Fritz Wiedenhoff has announced he will challenge incumbent Rep. Vito Barbieri, R- Dalton Gardens, for the Republican nomination for Legislative District 2, seat A.

“I am a conservative Republican coupled with a strong passion for public service as well as serving the community,” he said in a press release. “I believe these, among other qualities, uniquely position me to properly represent the 2nd District of Kootenai County.”

Wiedenhoff said legislators who become obstructionist do not help move the state forward. He said if he is elected he will focus on effectiveness, education and jobs.

“I believe this can be done while maintaining the conservative values our community shares,” he said. “Kootenai County needs strong proponents in Boise that can do this; I feel I am one that can foster this.”

Wiedenhoff currently serves as a firefighter with Northern Lakes Fire Protection District as well as an airport operations specialist and mechanic at the Coeur d’Alene Airport.

“Additionally, having kids in all levels of public schools provides me with a unique insight into education needs, beyond that of just a community member,” he said. “Freedom, equality and fairness are some of the core values that guide me and I intend to draw on if elected.”
