PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: 'Jacks top Charter, clinch No. 1 seed to districts

COEUR d’ALENE — Kelsey Auer scored 15 points to lead the St. Maries Lumberjacks past the Coeur d’Alene Charter Panthers 48-32 in the Central Idaho League finale for both schools on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic School.

Following the game, St. Maries (16-2, 5-1 CIL) won a coin flip to earn the top-seed in the 2A District 1-2 tournament, which starts on Saturday at Deary High. The Lumberjacks will face Coeur d’Alene Charter (3-16, 0-6) again at 7:30 p.m. Grangeville will be the No. 2 seed and Orofino the No. 3, with those two playing at 6.

Mae Alexander had 10 rebounds and five points, Elizabeth Lehosit 12 rebounds and Kelly Ruebke 14 points for Coeur d’Alene Charter, which faces North Idaho Christian on Thursday at Holy Family Catholic School.

“Giving up the size we do, that was a tremendous job by those kids,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Doug Grant said. “We had six girls due to injuries, and they played their guts out. It came down to second chance points, and they just beat us on those.”

Kaylee Auer scored 10 points for St. Maries, which doesn’t play again until Saturday’s district opener.

SANDPOINT — Riley Couch had 14 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds to lead the Bulldogs past the Hawks 71-41 in a 4A Inland Empire League game at Les Rogers Court.

Lakeland senior Kassadi Bilski had 15 points and Faith Bodak had eight points and six rebounds for Lakeland (4-15, 0-4 4A IEL), which plays at Timberlake on Thursday.

Madi Schoening had 22 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two assists and Grace Kirscher added 22 points, five assists and three steals for Sandpoint (11-9, 3-0 4A IEL), which hosts Moscow on Saturday to conclude the regular season.

BONNERS FERRY — McKeely Tonkin scored all 13 of her points in the first half for the Tigers in an Intermountain League win against the Badgers.

“We had some defensive errors in the first quarter, but just started making some shots in the second quarter,” said Timberlake coach Matt Miller, whose team has won 17 straight games. “They were the same shots we were taking in the first quarter, but we started making them in the second. It was a good, balanced attack. I was really happy with our defense after the first quarter. The girls played hard.”

Keelie Lawler scored 19 points for Timberlake (17-1, 6-0 IML), which hosts Lakeland on Thursday.

Kadi Bateman scored nine points for Bonners Ferry (6-11, 1-5).

PLUMMER — Lillian Rhea scored 33 points to lead the Knights past the Miners in a North Star League game at Ron Miller Court.

“Lillian had a really good night for us,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “I thought as a team, we played well defensively and worked hard to get the ball into her and get them into foul trouble. We had a good first and third quarter offensively, but they kept fighting back.”

Maryssa Hogamier scored 14 points for Wallace (14-3, 8-1 NSL), which had a 13-game win streak snapped.

Lakeside (12-5, 7-2) plays at Mullan on Thursday.

Wallace faces North Idaho Christian on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic School.

HARRISON FLATS — Charli Sadler scord 13 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Tigers past the Warriors in a North Star League game.

“It was a close game the entire way until they took the lead in the last 1:30,” Kootenai coach Mike LaFountaine said. “We had our chances at the end, but Charli just kind of took over the game. She’s a competitior.”

Kaili Gentry had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Grace McInturff had six points, 13 rebounds and six steals for Kootenai (6-12, 2-7 NSL), which plays at Clark Fork on Saturday.

Yazmin Gallaway and Sina Schaefer had five points each for Mullan (5-11, 3-5), which hosts Lakeside on Thursday.

“Charli is a clutch player for us,” Mullan coach Sherry Leitz said. “I’m proud of the team tonight.”
