RICHLAND, Wash. — Kayla Fagan scored 18 points and Taryn Horvath added 12 as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings picked up a big road win, holding off the Richland Bombers 45-42 in nonleague play Thursday night.

Fagan hit 3 3-pointers, two in the second quarter, and scored eight points in the quarter to help the Vikings (2-3) build a 28-17 halftime lead. Horvath came up with a key three-point play in the fourth quarter to help fend off Richland’s comeback.

“Our seniors, Kayla and Taryn really stepped up and played a great basketball game,” Coeur d’Alene assistant coach Mallorie Franco said. “We came out with a lot of energy, especially on the road, and played very aggressively. We were very resilient, especially with Richland’s comeback in the fourth quarter.”

Kelly Horning had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Coeur d’Alene, which travels to Lewiston on Tuesday to open 5A Inland Empire League play.

Taryn Webb scored 11 points for Richland, which beat Lake City 64-42 on Wednesday night.

Tyler McCliment-Call scored 12 points and Sydney Parks had eight points and 10 rebounds for Post Falls (6-0), which plays host to Rogers on Saturday.

“Lakeland played harder than we did, we just have them outmatched,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “They outhustled us, they beat us to loose balls. We didn’t execute in the first half and I challenged them at halftime, and we played pretty well in second half.”

Madi Farris scored five points for Lakeland (0-7), which plays host to Bonners Ferry on Saturday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Despite 16 points and 11 rebounds from freshman post Sandy Faulkner, the Panthers fell to the Badgers in Intermountain League play at Holy Family Catholic School.

Coeur d’Alene Charter (4-2, 0-2 IML) lost leading scorer Mae Alexander to an ankle injury in the first quarter. She did not return.

“We regrouped and played well without her,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Doug Grant said of Alexander. “She’s been averaging 15 points a night. We were a little shell-shocked, but hung right with them after that.”

Kelly Ruebke scored 13 points for Coeur d’Alene Charter, which faces Riverside (Wash.) on Saturday at Canfield Middle School.

KELLOGG — Bella Murekatete, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, totaled 34 points, 23 rebounds and six blocked shots as the visiting Jaguars defeated the Wildcat junior varsity at Andrews Gymnasium.

Trinity Morrow added nine points, four steals and three assists for Genesis Prep (2-0), and Rachel Schroeder had seven points and 10 assists.

“We know we have an advantage inside, and we’re going to use it,” Genesis Prep coach Debbie Holte said. “Trinity and Rachel did a good job getting it into Bella, and she did her part.”

Erin VanHoose led the Kellogg JV with 11 points.

POST FALLS — Cameron McKeown scored 15 points, hitting 5 of 7 from beyond the 3-point line as the Trojans — who finished with 17 assists as a team on 22 field goals — beat the Hawks at The Arena.

“Overall, I thought our defense was solid tonight,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “Lakeland runs a style of offense that you don’t see much anymore and were looking to take the momentum by holding the possession. We had to stay focused and sound on what we do, and defensively, I thought we did pretty well to not fall asleep and played disciplined against their style.”

Jake Pfennigs had 11 points, eight rebounds and five steals for Post Falls (4-0), which faces Skyview High of Vancouver, Wash., tonight in Richland.

Dylan Knight scored eight points for Lakeland (1-3), which hosts Bonners Ferry on Saturday.

The Bulldogs cut the lead to 54-53 with a minute to go, but Dakota Wilson came up with two steals in St. Maries’ full-court press.

Kiefer Gibson added 12 points and 15 rebounds and Jake Sieler had nine points and seven steals for St. Maries (2-0), which travels to Wallace to take on the Miners tonight at 7.

RATHDRUM — The visiting Trojans got pins from Ridge Lovett (106 pounds), A.J. De La Rosa (120), Jason Burchell (138), Braydon Huber (152), Wyatt Shelly (160), T.J. Hogan (170), Brad Noesen (220) and Cody Cantrell (285) to beat the Hawks in a dual at Hawk Court.

“It was really impressive with how our kids wrestled,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “Lakeland has a great team and they’ve got some great guys at the lower and upper weights. We were really happy with how our guys wrestled tonight.”

Jared Walker got a pin at 195 for Lakeland, which competes in the Inland Empire Classic today and Saturday at Central Valley High in Spokane Valley.

Post Falls travels to Hermiston tonight.
