Cd'A Fire hosts healthy holiday food drive

Santa Claus is making an early visit today to Coeur d’Alene Fire Station No. 3.

Coeur d’Alene Fire Department Local 710 is inviting children and families to come have their photos taken with Santa in exchange for a donation of a healthy food item from the list below.

Santa will be at the fire station, 1500 15th St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The healthy food donations will be given to the Coeur d’Alene School District’s school-based food pantries which support many families in need.

Healthy food items to donate

• Grains: Whole grain cereals that are low in sugar like oatmeal and Cheerios; whole grain breads; whole grain pasta; brown rices, quinoa, hulled barley and bulgar.

• Fruit and vegetables: Canned fruits packed in juice or water; low or no sodium canned vegetables; dried fruits with no added sugar.

• Meats and proteins: Salmon or tuna canned or packed in water; natural peanut butter with no added sugars; dried beans or canned low sodium or no salt added beans.

• Dairy: Shelf-stable non-fat or 1 percent milk; shelf-stable calcium-fortified dairy alternatives such as almond, non-flavored soy and rice milks; dry milk.

• Other: Olive oil, dried spices.
