PREP VOLLEYBALL: Coeur d'Alene topples Post Falls

COEUR d’ALENE — Delaney Schmidt and Ali Williams had 12 kills each as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings beat the Post Falls Trojans 25-19, 20-15, 25-21, 25-13 in the 5A Inland Empire League volleyball opener for both teams Tuesday night.

Williams had 21 assists, Isabella Hollibaugh 10 assists and seven digs for Coeur d’Alene (1-1). Sam Swayze had 18 digs and three aces, Elly Schraeder three blocks, Kelly Horning four aces.

“It’s nice to see improvement on the areas we are focusing on,” Coeur d’Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. “We have a lot of new faces on the court, and continue to work on the flow of our game together.”

Allison Munday had 10 kills for Post Falls (2-1). Mackenzie Morris had five kills and 10 digs, Courtney Finney 14 assists.

On Friday, Post Falls travels to Kalispell to play Lakeland and Glacier.

Coeur d’Alene visits Moscow on Thursday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Arlaina Stephenson had 17 kills and six aces as the Timberwolves beat the Bears 25-16, 25-7, 25-13 in a nonleague match.

Ashley Kaufman had 15 kills, Tessa Sarff 11 kills, Klaire Mitchell 42 assists and Ashley Reyes 28 digs for Lake City.

“Honestly, it was such a great, collective team effort tonight,” Lake City coach Jenna Leggat said. “Position by position, every single person had a great match. I couldn’t be happier.”

Lake City opens 5A Inland Empire League play at Lewiston on Thursday.

Cd’A Charter d. Wallace

WALLACE — Taylor Wilkinson, recently named head coach when Ian Kelsey took a job in Chicago, was a winner in her debut as the Panthers beat the Miners 25-22, 25-13, 25-21 in nonleague play.

Outside hitters Kallie Garn and freshman Megan MacKinney led Charter in kills and digs, Wilkinson said.

“They led their team through talking and communication,” Wilkinson said. “After we got over our first-game jitters, the girls really calmed down and everything we practiced shined through. We’re excited for the season and you can expect good things from us.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter plays host to Lakeside on Thursday.

Lakeland sweeps at tri-match

KELLOGG — The Hawks beat Kellogg 25-18, 25-13, and also defeated Stillwater Christian of Kalispell, Mont. (scores were unavailable) at Andrews Gymnasium.

Lakeland (4-1) travels to Kalispell on Friday to play Glacier and Post Falls.
