Murray seeks seat on NIC board

Brad Murray announced his candidacy for the Zone 5 seat on the North Idaho College Board of Trustees.

Murray, who recently retired as superintendent of Lakeland School District, had a 36-year career in Idaho public schools as a teacher and administrator.

He formerly taught at Wallace, Post Falls and Lakeland school districts.

“This is an opportunity for me to remain actively involved in education in Idaho and have an impact in the programs and the direction of NIC. My extensive background in career and technical education, public school administration and the work I have done in the area of workforce development align well with the mission and vision of NIC,” Murray said in a press release.

His administrative experiences consist of serving the Lakeland School District as athletic director from 1994-1998, assistant principal of Lakeland High School 1997-1999, Lakeland assistant superintendent 2007-2014 and superintendent 2014-2016. He was the principal/director of the Coeur d’Alene, Lakeland and Post Falls school districts’ Riverbend Professional Technical Academy from 1999-2007.

Murray holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Education Technology from Eastern Washington University and a master’s degree in School Administration from Eastern Washington University, as well as a superintendent credential from Washington State University.

During his tenure as an administrator for the Lakeland School District, he had experience with presentations before the Idaho State Board of Education and the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee of the Idaho Legislature. He has presented and addressed a number of conferences including the Inland Northwest Partners Economic Development group.

Murray has been active in several community organizations including the Lakeland Sunrise Rotary, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Idaho Homeless Coalition and Kootenai Business Education Partnership. He served from 2005 to 2011 on the United Way of Kootenai County Board and from 2010-2016 on the Idaho Workforce Development Council (gubernatorial appointment).

Murray and his wife, Julie, have three daughters and five grandchildren.
