Sexual assault being investigated at NIC
Coeur d'Alene police officers are working with North Idaho College officials to investigate allegations of a sexual assault that reportedly occurred on campus.
Officers responded Thursday, Aug. 25, around 2 a.m. to the report that a sexual assault occurred at a residence in the 500 block of N. College Drive on property owned by the college. NIC's dorms are in that location.
"This is an active investigation and additional information will be released as the investigation progresses," stated a press release issued Monday afternoon by the police department. "No arrests have been made at this time and there are no immediate concerns for campus safety, as all material parties have been identified and located."
College officials released the following statement:
"According to North Idaho College policy and obligations under Title IX, we investigate all allegations of sexual assault.
"North Idaho College is committed to the safety and security of our students. While we can’t comment on law enforcement investigations, it’s important to note the heavy emphasis NIC places on training staff, faculty, and students in violence prevention and awareness. All employees receive Title IX training to learn how to respond and report incidents of violence. Additionally, employees and students undergo Green Dot training, which is a bystander intervention movement aimed at violence prevention.
"Green Dot proactively promotes intolerance of violence by empowering individuals to take action against it. In the past two years since the program was initiated, Green Dot has been incorporated in all collegewide activities, including new student orientation to help initiate students to a culture intolerant of violence."
