LEWISTON — The Lake City Timberwolves went 7-1 on the day, beating Lewiston 29-27 in an if-necessary championship match of the Lewiston Invitational on Saturday at Booth Hall.

Lewiston beat Lake City in the first championship match, but the Timberwolves had gone 6-0 throughout the day, beating Sandpoint, Moscow, Orofino and Grangeville to advance to the final round.

“Lewiston put up a great fight,” first-year Lake City coach Jenna Leggat said. “Our girls never gave up and pushed to the end. They just kept pushing and stayed together. Good things happen when those kinds of things are done.”

Scores and stats from the tournament were not available.

Lake City hosts Moscow on Tuesday.
