Another big night for Idaho Governor's Cup
The Idaho Governor’s Cup raised $1.06 million this weekend for its Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship Fund.
The event, which alternates being held in Coeur d’Alene and Sun Valley, hosted 100 sponsors, offering a variety of activities in Coeur d’Alene including a golf tournament, trap shooting and fly fishing. There was also kayaking and kitchen tutorials for individual guests.
Donations were accepted throughout the event, which concluded with an auction Saturday night at the Hagadone Event Center. All proceeds go to the scholarship fund which helps Idaho students attend Idaho colleges and universities.
The last couple of years, according to Sarah Fuhriman, the executive director of the Idaho Governor’s Cup, the event has raised just over $1 million. Last year, it was $1.2 million.
This year, the auction had two donations that brought in a lot of money. The first was a Chevy replica golf cart, which sold to the highest bidder for $16,000. The second was an “All Idaho” gun, made of parts from only Idaho manufacturers. A similar gun was auctioned off last year for $46,000. This year, the one-of-a-kind firearm sold for $40,000.
To really hit home, Allysha Yasuda, one of the scholarship winners, came to the event to talk about her experience in college and how grateful she is for the scholarship. She is currently a junior at the University of Idaho and plans to go to medical school.
This, Fuhriman said, gave donors a good perspective of where their money is going, and inspired them to give more.
“I am eternally grateful to be part of an organization that is able to help Idaho’s best and brightest students continue their education in our great state,” Fuhriman said. “This is truly a great cause.”
