Dale Updike, 68

| August 25, 2016 9:00 PM

On Aug. 1, 2016, the world lost a good man, Vietnam Vet, Brother, Son, Father, Grandfather and a truly good friend. But above all Dale Updike was a biker, true blue born and bred.

Dale was born in Craig, Colo., on July 16, 1949. He graduated high school in Fresno, Calif., in 1968; upon graduation he volunteered to serve his country through 1972. Dale was very proud to be a Vietnam Vet. After returning home from the service, Dale lived in Great Falls, Mont., with his only son, Michael. In 1989, he discovered Rathdrum, Idaho, and made it his forever home.

Dale could put his hand to any and everything and that knowledge and experience propelled his career in all aspects of the transportation industry. Dale retired five years ago from Husky International Trucks. He retired from the industry, but not from the many family and friends he made along the way. Dale’s retirement was filled with fix it projects for friends, family and sometimes even himself. He put as many miles on his three bikes as he possibly could. He loved the mountains, rivers and lakes and enjoyed camping and fishing. He took advantage of the fact that he lived so close to so many.

Dale is preceded in death by a few dear friends, sadly too many to list. Dale leaves behind his longtime girlfriend and partner in all things fun, Sam, aka Jeanie Basdock, also of Rathdrum; his parents, Marvin and Maxine Updike, in Grants Pass, Ore.; sister Gale Yandy, and niece Sheri and her husband, Norm Howard, all of San Diego, Calif.; and his son, Michael, Michael’s wife Leah, and their two sons, Zane and Christian, in Sheridan, Wyo.

Per Dale’s request, there will not be any services. Friends and family are planning a memorial and will make those details known at a later date. So friends, you all know, Dale’s got the Rainier on ice, keep the rubber side down until we meet again.
